An Original Vintage Theatrical English Movie Pressbook (English pb; measures 11 1/4" x 17 1/2"; 8 pages) (Learn More) The Proud Valley (released in the U.S. in 1941 as "The Tunnel"), the 1940 Pen Tennyson English Welsh coal mining cave-in disaster melodrama (about an American seaman who goes to work in a Welsh mining town; there is a cave-in and the workers want to rescue the trapped miners, but the management refuses; ultimately, Robeson sacrifices his life so that the trapped miners can be rescued) starring Paul Robeson (one of the first black African American actors to achieve success in mainstream sound movies; "The Samson of Song!"), Edward Chapman, Simon Lack, Rachel Thomas, Dilys Thomas, Edward Rigby, and Janet Johnson. Note that the producers of this melodrama wanted to give Paul Robeson a chance to use his magnificent voice, so they had scenes where he sings in the local church choir! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this is a rare country of origin pressbook for this English movie. Also note that this pressbook was folded across the center at one time. Because of this, this pressbook can be sent in one of our standard size packages (if it is purchased together with pressbooks that can NOT be folded, then it will of course have to be sent in one of our oversized packages). But if this pressbook is purchased by itself (or solely with other pressbooks that can be folded), then the shipping will be much lower, because it fits in a standard package. Also note that we have provided an image of the front and back covers of the pressbook, plus an image of any supplements or heralds (if there are any included with this pressbook), but of course, the winner of this auction will receive the entire single pressbook we are selling (plus any supplements or heralds)! Finally, note that this pressbook is complete and uncut! Given that theater owners purchased pressbooks partly in order to create their newspaper advertising, and quite frequently cut them up for that purpose, it is rare to find a pressbook that IS complete and uncut! Condition: good, NO CUTS. There is separation along the spine and the cover of the pressbook has several tape repairs on the front and back around the edges. Learn More about condition grades
