A Linenbacked Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Movie Window Card (WC; measures 14" x 22" [36 x 56 cm]) (Learn More) Hold Your Man, the 1933 Sam Wood romantic crime prison comedy melodrama ("Together Again"; "The Stars You Love to See Making Love!"; "the flaming lovers of 'Red Dust' together again"; "From the story by Anita Loos"; a wacky story of a beautiful girl who falls for a criminal, and he commits crime and leaves her to take the blame, and while she is in prison, she finds she is pregnant, so he sneaks in the prison to marry her, and allows himself to be caught so that she can be released, and she promises to wait for him!) starring Jean Harlow ("a one-man woman....."), Clark Gable ("the swaggering heart-smasher"), Stuart Erwin, Dorothy Burgess, Muriel Kirkland, George Reed, Garry Owen, and Bobby Cook (playing Gable & Harlow's young child) NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this window card, and that example has now been reconsigned to us, so this is still the only example we have ever auctioned! Note that the card measures very slightly under 14" x 22" (an extremely tiny amount in each direction!) and has no left, right, or bottom blank borders, but it has NOT been trimmed (this was done at a time when MGM was experimenting with having as few borders as possible). What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: fair. The top half of the card was missing, including a portion of the "H" of "HOLD" and some of the background at the right end of the top of the bottom half (see our image). But there were also creases scattered in the faces of the stars and some stains and scuffs down the right edge, with a few stains scattered in the image. Someone had a restorer linenback the card (rather than paperback it) and they took half of another card and colored it to match, recreating solely the end of the title (if there was anything else in the top background area, it was not recreated). At some point after this restoration was performed, because it was roughly handled, and because of the weight of the window card, it was slightly bent in half, which caused slight separation along the area where the original card joined the replacement piece. If I owned this card, I would surely have it removed from the linen and properly paperbacked (either saving the original restoration or having new restoration performed). Obviously, it would be great to have another example of the card to use as a guide to see what exactly what was missing (if anything), but I have never seen another! Learn More about condition grades
