DeMille historical ancient Egypt romantic love triangle desert epic ("'The Siren of the Nile'... Most famous woman of love who ever lived!"; "A love affair that shook the world, set in a spectacle of thrilling magnificence!"; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award) starring Claudette Colbert (in the title role as Cleopatra), Warren William (as Julius Caesar), Henry Wilcoxon (as Marc Antony), Joseph Schildkraut (as King Herod), Ian Keith (as Octavian), C. Aubrey Smith, Gertrude Michael (as Calpurnia), Arthur Hohl (as Brutus), Edwin Maxwell (as Casca), Ian Maclaren (as Cassius), and David Niven (in his third role, uncredited in a bit part as a slave!). Note that there had been a 1917 silent version of this movie with Theda Bara in the leading role, and it was remade in 1963 with Elizabeth Taylor (and, of course, there have been many other depictions of Cleopatra in movies all through the years). This means the poster was backed onto a light paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (it means that the poster must be handled carefully, as the backing does not give it much added strength, but it is similar to having an unrestored poster, and yet it has been properly preserved). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards. What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. Prior to paperbacking, the card had a long horizontal tear running across the bottom of the title and through Colbert's hat. It had another horizontal tear running across her forehead and down through the top of her right eye. It had a third long tear running from the right of her headdress down to her right eye, and then extending along the edge of her eye through her nose, and ending in the left of her mouth. It also had been trimmed across the top edge of the image, affecting the top of Zukor's credit and the top of Colbert's headdress. It had some tears and small paper loss in the other three borders. Overall, the window card was in fair condition prior to paperbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can clearly see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects (especially the tears that affect Colbert's face). Please look closely at our super-sized image before placing a bid on this poster, so you know that you can accept the restoration it has had (or want to have additional restoration performed).
