Appears in Vintage Hollywood Posters 7 CATALOG SOLD OUT The image at right appears in the auction catalog we published as shown above and was sold long ago and we do NOT have it available for purchase. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (measures 11" x 14") (Learn More) Flash Gordon, the classic 1936 Frederick Stephani science fiction (sci-fi) serial ("The first great serial spectacle!"; "The Gigantic Serial Spectacle! 13 Chapters of Strange World Adventures"; "Syndicated by King Features"; "From Alex Raymond's famous newspaper comic strip"; "13 Thrilling Chapters!") starring Buster Crabbe (in the title role "as Flash Gordon"; the 1932 Olympic swimming champion who is most famous for this role and as "Buck Rogers" in the Universal serials), Jean Rogers ("as Dale Arden"), Charles Middleton ("as Emperor Ming" [Ming the Merciless]), Priscilla Lawson ("as Aura"), Frank Shannon ("as Dr. Zarkov"), Jack 'Tiny' Lipson (billed as "John Lipson as Vultan"), Richard Alexander ("as Prince Barin"), James Pierce, Duke Ford Jr., Theodore Lorch, and Ray 'Crash' Corrigan (as the man in the really fake ape "Orangopoid" suit!). Note that Crash Corrigan made a REALLY wise investment in the 1930s, when he bought a "gorilla suit". In many of the movies in the 1940s where there is a fake gorilla, it is played by Crash Corrigan, no doubt because he could supply the suit! Also note that this classic science fiction serial was also released in 1936, in a feature version (approximately 73 minutes, and condensed from all the separate chapters joined together). Universal created posters and lobby cards for all the chapters of the serial version, and also created additional posters and a set of lobby cards for the feature version. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this is from the feature version of this serial. After Universal released this movie as a serial, they re-edited it into a single full-length feature, and released it that way under the same title. Some collectors have questioned whether this feature version was released in 1936 or in a later year, but the cards offered here were discovered together with the chapter 5 cards also offered here, and they are virtually identical as to printing (there is an area at the top and bottom where the serial information is replaced with feature information, but otherwise they ARE identical), which leads me to think that they are surely from the same time, given that they are so similar, and were found together. But these "feature" cards are not dated, so please do not bid on them unless you can accept that they could possibly be from a year other than 1936. Condition: very good to fine. The back of the card has darkened slightly, but there is only the slightest signs of the darkening on the front of the card (at the extreme edges). There is a 3" horizontal crease along the left side of the top blank border right by the edge of the card. There is a 1/2" white horizontal line on the girl's cheek, which looks to be a minor printing defect. Similarly there are four white dots in the lower right of the image in the solid blue area that look to be a minor printing defect. There is a faint diagonal crease in the top left blank corner. There are the slightest of tiny bumps in the extreme edges of the card, but otherwise the card looks as though it might have just been printed! I cannot imagine anyone finding a better example of this card! Learn More about condition grades
