Date Sold 10/27/2024Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded German Movie Poster (measures 37 1/2" x 46 1/4" [95 x 117 cm]) (Learn More) Die Verzauberte Prinzessin (literally translates to "The Enchanted Princess"), the 1939 Alf Zengerling German fantasy fairy tale (IMDb says this movie is about a young man named Hassan looking for a princess who has been turned into a ruby, and that it is an "oriental" tale) starring Olaf Bach, Hermann Wagner, Erna Morena, and Ilse Petri. We have seen a German plot summary that matches IMDB, so we imagine it is correct (and the Dutch title translates to "The Secret of the Ruby"). There is a German fairy tale called Die Verzauberte Prinzessin by Ludwig Bechstein. He cited oral tradition as a source and compared it to the Brothers Grimm's The White Snake, but Bechstein's story did not have a princess who was turned into a ruby so it would seem this movie is not related to that story. If anyone knows more about this movie, please e-mail us and we will post it here. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is a very rare "country of origin" poster from Germany from before World War II, which we have never auctioned before (or ANYTHING else from this movie). There are very few German movie posters from before World War II in existence (because of the massive paper shortages in Germany during World War II), and most of those few are in museums. Condition: fair to good. This German poster was used in Holland, and it has the Dutch title overprinted in the top. There is also a foreign stamp in the top right corner and a foreign snipe in the lower right corner. The poster was placed on to a very thin linen backing shortly after being printed, and the borders were folded over and sewn. The purpose was to reinforce the poster, so that it would survive, when it was passed from theater to theater, and when it was put up on walls and taken down. Such posters can be professionally removed from the original linen and placed on to a proper linen backing. I have done this to several such posters, and they end up looking wonderful!
