An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) The Apostle of Vengeance, the 1916 William S. Hart & Clifford Smith silent Vermont feuding families melodrama (story by Monte Katterjohn; in this, Hart plays a minister who returns to his small home town in Vermont, where his family, the Hudsons, are feuding with a rival family, the McCoys, and he tries to make peace between them, and his family throws him out, and he lives by himself, but when one of the rival family members attacks his young sister, he is spurred to action and almost kills the man, but he stops himself in time, and that act enables both families to set aside their feud) starring William S. Hart, Nona Thomas, Joseph J. Dowling, Fanny Midgley, and John Gilbert (billed as "Jack Gilbert"). Note that John Gilbert was billed as "Jack Gilbert" in this movie (which is how he was billed in movies at this time). He had uncredited roles in 1915 and then had credited roles in 1916, but he still spent the next several years not achieving major stardom. One of his first major roles was in 1922 when he starred in an early version of "The Count of Monte Cristo". Of course, he would become a top star of the mid 1920s, and then he would co-star with a very young Greta Garbo, and the rest, as they say, is history. Note that this is a "lost" film, which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Condition: very good to fine. There are pinholes in the corners. Note that this lobby card is completely unrestored and there is not a single piece of tape on either the front or back! Learn More about condition grades
