An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Movie Window Card (WC; measures 14" x 22" [36 x 56 cm]) (Learn More) Yankee Doodle in Berlin, the 1919 F. Richard Jones silent World War I (WWI) Germany screwball military cross-dressing comedy ("With an all-star Sennett cast"; about a U.S. officer who becomes a spy in Berlin, and dressing as a woman, he is able to fool all the top German officers, including the Kaiser himself, and he learns many important secrets!) starring Bothwell Browne, Ford Sterling (as the Kaiser), Malcolm St. Clair, Bert Roach, and Eva Thatcher. Note that the movie was produced by Mack Sennett, and apparently, they had a gimmick where his famous "Bathing Beauties" would appear at showings of the movie! While we are certain there was regular movie advertising for this movie centering on the film, the only item from this movie we have ever auctioned is a window card that promotes the Sennett Bathing Beauties far more than the movie itself ("Mack Sennett's Bathing Beauties appearing in person at every performance"). The Bathing Beauties were women assembled by producer Mack Sennett starting in 1915 and continuing to 1928. They appeared in provocative (for the time) bathing costumes in comedy short subjects, promotional material, and in promotional events such as Venice Beach beauty contests. While not individually featured or named, many of these young women ascended to significant careers of their own (such as Juanita Hansen, Claire Anderson, Marie Prevost, Phyllis Haver, and Carole Lombard). We have never auctioned even a single movie paper item from this movie until we received this window card!
