An Autographed REPRODUCTION 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm] Photo (Learn More) Rock Hudson was born in 1925. He was 6'4" (or was he 6'5"?) and he looked like a movie star, and it didn't take him long to become one. Some of his movies include: Giant (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film), Seconds, and Ice Station Zebra. He appeared in around 70 movies, and starred in a TV series, McMillan & Wife, in the 1970s. He was a gay homosexual man at a time when one couldn't reveal that and continue in movies, and he had to hide that throughout his career (even having a sham marriage with interior designer Phyllis Gates in the 1950s), until he developed AIDS and could no longer hide it. When he publicly admitted that he had AIDS, it changed the public perception of the disease (particularly because Nancy Reagan was a very good friend of his and her husband was the President of the United States), and helped gain the funding and research that has led to so many advances in fighting it. He passed away in 1985 at the age of 59 from complications from AIDS. Important Added Info: Note that this REPRODUCTION photo has been personally autographed (signed) by Rock Hudson! Our consignor attended a play ("I Do, I Do") that Mr. Hudson was in at the Phoenix Theatre in London, England in January 1976. Our consignor left this photo at the stage door with a letter asking Mr. Hudson to sign it and leave it back for him, and when he returned, he was given the photo with this inscription. He compared it to known examples of Mr. Hudson's signature, and he believes it to be authentic, but he has no certificate of authenticity, so do any research you want to do before bidding on this REPRODUCTION photo. Note that our consignor left TWO photos for Mr. Hudson, who signed them both. We previously auctioned the other one, and now this is the last one that our consignor had. As is true of all the signed items we are currently auctioning, we give every buyer 30 days in which to review what they purchased (although we prefer they do any "authenticating" while the auction is "live" and before they place a bid) and they can return any item as long as it is within 30 days of the end of the auction. On non-signed items, we give a "lifetime guarantee" on everything we auction, but on signed items, we give the above modified guarantee of 30 days after the auction closes.
