An Original Vintage Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh) (Learn More)

Grand Slam, the 1933 William Dieterle romantic bridge card game gambling melodrama ("It's a riot of fun!"; "Laffs galore!"; it is hard to believe nowadays, but this movie's plot concerns a husband and wife who break up over the husband's devotion to the card game bridge, and after many misunderstandings, the movie ends with the husband in a match against his rival, and he is losing, but at the climax, his wife offers to become his partner in the game, and they win the match, which helps them repair their damaged marriage!) starring Paul Lukas, Loretta Young, Frank McHugh, Glenda Farrell, and Helen Vinson. Note that the card game bridge achieved phenomenal success in the U.S. in the early 1930s! Virtually every married couple played it, and there were daily bridge columns in every newspaper, and the top bridge players, like Ely Culbertson, became famous celebrities! Naturally, Hollywood tried to make a movie about the phenomenon, but watching people play cards on screen is not very exciting, so this was the only such movie!
