Date Sold 9/30/2021Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded English Double Crown Movie Poster (DC; measures 20" x 30" [51 x 76 cm]) (Learn More) Close Encounters of the Third Kind, the classic 1977 Steven Spielberg (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) science fiction (sci-fi) alien UFO melodrama ("Close Encounter of the First Kind: Sighting of a UFO"; "Close Encounter of the Second Kind: Physical Evidence"; "Close Encounter of the Third Kind: Contact"; "We are not alone."; "Every 15 minutes, someone sees a UFO"; "Written and Directed by Steven Spielberg") starring Richard Dreyfuss, Teri Garr, Melinda Dillon (nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for this film), Francois Truffaut (the famous French director, in an acting role; "as Lacombe"), Bob Balaban, and Cary Guffey (as the little boy). Note that Paul Schrader wrote the original screenplay for this movie, but Steven Spielberg made many changes to Schrader's script. Finally, Schrader asked that his name be taken off the screenplay, and since it had to have someone's name on it, Spielberg put his own name on the screenplay! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this double crown is from the extremely rare "Marler Haley" set that was used in the United Kingdom. It consists of two British quads and four English double crowns that were displayed with one quad over the other in the center, and two double crowns at left and two at right. We are currently auctioning this double crown, plus two of the other double crowns, plus one of the British quads, in four separate auctions. All four of these posters are extremely rare! Condition: good to very good. The poster has paper loss in the upper right corner. There are faint splatter and drip stains throughout the lower quarter of the poster, with a few tiny ones above the lower horizontal fold. After linenbacking with some restoration the poster will display well, or certainly many collectors would choose to display the rare poster as is (but please bear in mind the defects and see our super-sized image before placing a bid).
