An Original Vintage Theatrical Autographed Oversized Movie Still (measures 13 1/2" x 16 1/2" [34 x 42 cm]) (Learn More)

Samuel Goldwyn (born "Szmuel Gelbfisz"; it was Americanized to Samuel Goldfish) was a producer and studio executive from the 1910s to 1953. He was a founder of Paramount, Goldwyn Pictures (which eventually became MGM) and Samuel Goldwyn Studios. He is famous for his many quotable statements such as "Include me out"! He was producer of many of the top movies of the 1930s and 1940s. Early in his career, he was a major executive at Paramount, helping Adolph Zukor gain control of the company. In 1916, they had a falling out, and he started a new company with the Selwyn brothers, successful Broadway producers, and they named it "Goldwyn", as a combination of "Goldfish" and "Selwyn", and he was able to gain control of the studio away from the Selwyns, who complained that he "stole everything, including their name"! Goldwyn passed away in 1974 at the age of 94.
Important Added Info: Note that this still has been personally autographed (signed) by a young Samuel Goldwyn! Also note that this still measures 13 1/2" x 16 1/2" [34 x 42 cm].

Note that eMoviePoster.com recently auctioned a wonderful archive of original stills that were owned by director H. Bruce "Lucky" Humberstone. In that archive was this oversized still, so we are auctioning it now, in this auction. The still is almost certainly from 1930 or 1931 when Humberstone worked as an assistant director on Goldwyn films such as Raffles, Whoopee, and Street Scene. Obviously, a famous producer like Samuel Goldwyn would hand write his own inscription to an assistant director like Bruce Humberstone, so there is no doubt this is an authentic signature!

As is true of all the signed items we are currently auctioning, we give every buyer 30 days in which to review what they purchased and they can return any item as long as it is within 30 days of the end of the auction.

Condition: good. This oversized still must have been in a frame, because it has creases and some indentations around the edges that look like they were caused by the nails holding it to a frame. It also has some small tears and a 3" tear near the middle right, with tiny surface paper loss on part of that tear. There is a crease running through his forehead. Obviously, this photo can have any amount of restoration done the new owner chooses, but bear all of the above in mind before bidding on it.
