Pather Panchali, the classic 1955 (released in the U.S. in 1958) Satyajit Ray Indian poor-Brahmin-family-relationship melodrama ("Music by Ravi Shankar") starring Kanu Bannerjee, Karuna Bannerjee, Subir Bannerjee, Uma Das Gupta, and Chunibala Devi. Note that this film is the first in the trilogy of movies based on the novel by Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay and Ray's own experiences, the first was "Panther Panchali" in 1955, followed by "Aparajito" and in 1956 and "Apur Sansar" in 1959.

Important Added Info: Note that the IMDB says that this classic was first released in the U.S. in 1958. Yet these stills have an NSS number handwritten on the back that reads "62-240". One possibility is that the IMDB is simply wrong, and the other is that it had a very limited arthouse release in 1958 and then had its general U.S. release in 1962. Another is that these are 1958 stills that were re-used when the movie was re-released in 1962. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here.
