An Original Vintage Screen Gems Movie Studio Campaign Book (measures 12 1/2" x 16"; 52 single-sided pages, plus 3 double-sided pages) (Learn More) Shock! (also known as "Shock Theater"), the 1957 Screen Gems campaign book promoting the television (TV) releases of 52 Universal horror movies such as Dracula, Frankenstein, The Mummy, The Invisible Man, The Wolf Man, and many more. The entire book is professionally bound with a spiral binding, which allows you to lay the book open flat without damaging the pages (something most other campaign books do not have). This book was sent to TV stations to let them know what Universal horror movies were available for rental, and the book contains 52 individual single-sided pages, each of which has a black & white image from the movie, a synopsis of the movie, credits, running time, and original release date, plus text on the right half of each page containing "on-the-air promotions", TV news releases, and a biography of the leading star. These three sections on the right half of each page are perforated, so that they could be taken out of the book and used to promote the TV showing of that movie. At the front of the book are six pages of explanatory material about the movies, including an index of the movies contained therein. The inside front cover of the campaign book originally had a cool die-cut Frankenstein pop-up glued to the top of the inside front cover and the inside first page, that would cause Frankenstein to pop up when you open the book. The front and back covers have cool artwork of the Universal monsters, which I have never seen anywhere else! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that the covers of this campaign book are scuffed and there is glue staining on blank areas of the inside front cover and inside first page (as described above, where the pop-up had been glued), but otherwise the book is in really excellent condition, which is especially surprising, given that every page of the book was perforated in three places, and it was designed to have pages detached. It is likely the only reason nothing was removed from the book is because this book was consigned to us directly from an individual who had worked for Universal Pictures at this time, and he likely received it as a sample copy. I would think any copy from a TV station at that time would surely have missing pages, and show much wear. Condition: very good. Learn More about condition grades
