Conservatoire Africain (literally translates to "African Conservatory") is a Belgian charity created in 1876 that is dedicated to helping African children. During fundraising activities, which often took place during carnivals, members would dress up in blackface and fancy clothing (generally brightly colored pants, black coat and white top hat) and collected donations in black baby dolls. In modern times, blackface is very controversial and in 2019, the group started painting their faces in the colors of the Belgian flag.

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster was never folded. It had some very minor creases around the edges. Overall, the poster was in very good to fine condition prior to linenbacking. Unfortunately, the poster was very roughly handled, and it has many creases at the top and bottom, affecting the edges of the poster in those areas.
