An Original Vintage Theatrical 8" x 10 1/4" [20 x 26 cm] Movie Still (Learn More) The Road to Glory, the 1936 Howard Hawks World War I (WWI) military romantic love triangle melodrama (scripted by William Faulkner) starring Fredric March, Warner Baxter, Lionel Barrymore, June Lang, and Gregory Ratoff. Note that the movie concerns two French officers in World War I and their love for the same woman, and a subplot concerning a very old enlisted man who turns out to be one of the officer's father. The movie was loosely adapted from the 1932 French movie "Le Croix des Bois". Also, "The Road to Glory" happens to be the name of Howard Hawks' very first directorial effort in 1926, but other than the title and director, there is no relationship between the two movies. Finally, note that the movie has a recurring theme where one of the officers has to keep giving a pep talk to a bunch of new recruits that he knows will suffer great casualties, and there are anti-war elements to the movie, and it seems certain that Stanley Kubrick was influenced by the plot from this classic movie when he made "Paths of Glory".
