Date Sold 5/5/2016Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) McKenna of the Mounted, the 1932 D. Ross Lederman Canadian Royal Mounted Police Mountie cowboy western ("He always 'gets' his man!") starring Buck Jones (in the title role as Sergeant Tom McKenna), Greta Granstedt, Walter McGrail, Mitchell Lewis, and Glenn Strange (in one of his many early uncredited roles). Note that Buck Jones' white horse was named Silver (just like The Lone Ranger's later on!), and Silver made 73 movies with Buck Jones from 1922 until Jones' death in 1942 in the tragic Cocoanut Grove fire. But oddly, Silver was almost never billed on the posters for Buck Jones' movies as so many other famous horses (most especially Tom Mix's Tony) were! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is an extremely rare poster! We have only auctioned it twice before, once 22 years ago, and once 18 years ago, and those might have been the same poster! Richard Allen once owned an example of this poster, and we used that image in our "Cowboy Movie Posters" book (and it is certainly one of the best cowboy movie posters ever, although technically Buck plays a Mountie!). Condition: fair to good. Someone put much paper tape on the front of the borders, no doubt to "reinforce" them, and to cover pinholes and tears in the borders. They also put pieces of clear tape on the back of many parts of the folds, where there were tears, separation, and tiny bits of paper loss. There are pinholes around the edges and several pinholes scattered through the poster, with a 5" vertical tear starting below Jones' eye and running down to just below his nose. There was tiny paper loss at the crossfolds and there is tape on the back of them, and someone put color on the front of the middle crossfold (see our image). There is a 4" L-shaped tear in the middle right of the poster, extending into the black background. There are many creases and scuffs scattered throughout the poster. The back of the poster has darkened (likely because it was pressed against a backing board). Certainly, this wonderful poster should be immediately given to the very best restorer the new owner knows, and properly restored and linenbacked, after which it will look fantastic! But please bear in mind the above defects and the cost of restoration, and look closely at our super-sized image and read the above before placing a bid on this poster.
