Date Sold 1/4/2011Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Undated (probably 1940s) Re-Release Vintage Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Mr. Washington Goes to Town, the 1941 William Beaudine black African American all-black-cast comedy (a parody of Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, which had been released two years earlier) starring F.E. Miller (Flourney E. Miller), Mantan Moreland, Marguerite Whitten, Maceo Bruce Sheffield, Sam Warren, Edward Boyd, and Arthur Ray. Note that seasoned director William Beaudine actually directed this film (because he needed the money), but didn't want credit so as to avoid being associated with a low-budget all-black-cast film, so producer Jeb Buell put his name as the director on all the movie paper! Also note that Flourney Miller was a major figure in black Broadway musical history, performing and writing with his partner Aubrey Lyles. After Lyles passed away in 1933, Miller appeared in a number of all-black movies in the 1930s and 1940s. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: good. There is discoloration throughout the poster from exposure to moisture and there are some creases and smudges scattered throughout. There are several tack holes and small tears scattered around the edges of the poster. Learn More about condition grades
