Dante (born Harry August Jansen) was a Danish professional magician from the 1910s to the 1950s. He first worked solo under the name The Great Jansen before switching to Dante in 1922. Known throughout the world, Dante the Magician worked in vaudeville, burlesque, legitimate theatre, films, and television. His stage trademark was to utter three nonsense words, "Sim Sala Bim" during his performances to acknowledge applause. He only appeared in three movies, but two of them were notable: A-Haunting We Will Go (with Laurel & Hardy), and Jean Renoir's "The Golden Coach". Note that either Dante the Magician had a wonderful agent, or he was very highly regarded in the early 1940s, because when he made "A-Haunting We Will Go", he received equal billing to Laurel and Hardy, which we have not seen on any of their other movies! He passed away in 1955 at the age of 71.
