Note that if the plot of this movie seems remarkably familiar, it is because Fritz Lang remade it in 1945 as Scarlet Street, which is another exceptional movie! This movie was considered too rough for 1931 U.S. audiences, and Lang's remake toned down the story quite a bit. Famed French director Jean-Pierre Melville said he wanted to do a remake that would be faithful to the original, but sadly, this was never made. This movie was finally released in the U.S. in 1975, 44 years after it was made! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned ANY French lobby cards from this movie. Not only that, but the only other first release item was a French still, and that sold for $106! Note that we think it is extremely likely these are from the first French release of this movie, but there is a very slight chance they are from a re-release (we don't think this, because the re-release would have been after World War II, and we don't believe there were French lobby cards like these made after World War II). Also note that very early French lobby cards were like later Swiss lobby cards, where they would have a heavy stock cardboard background with information about the movie and a blank rectangular area in the center where they would glue a different still to each stock background, thus creating a set of lobby cards for less money than having all different cards would cost. ANY French lobby cards from before World War II are incredibly rare! Note that these are "country of origin" lobby cards for this classic French movie! Also note that these French lobby cards measure 9 1/2" x 11 3/4" [24 x 30 cm]. Condition: fair to good. Both lobby cards have many pinholes and some stains around the edges, with small paper loss in the corner of one. Both of the glued on images have stains and scuffs. Obviously, these incredibly rare lobby cards can be restored. One would prefer to find them in better condition, but we don't know that any others exist! Learn More about condition grades
