An Original Vintage Theatrical Spook Show Window Card Movie Poster (WC; measures 22" x 28") (Learn More) a local theater window card advertising the Bela Lugosi Big Horror and Magic Stage Show held at the RKO Capitol Theatre in Trenton, New Jersey on December 26, 1950 ("Trenton Transit Buses Available at Show's Completion"; "RKO CAPITOL THEATRE TRENTON"; "1 Performance Only"; "Midnite Tues. Dec. 26"; "'Mr. Horror' Himself! Bela Lugosi in person and Company with his 'Big Horror and Magic Stage Show'"; "13 blood-curdling scenes 13"; "-and on screen too! Bela Lugosi in 'They Creep in the Dark'"; "SEE! ...Lugosi and Bloody Guillotine! ...Dr. Montez the Magician! ...Vampire Maiden Burned Alive! ...Beauty and the Monster!"; "Tickets now on sale! $1.00 inc. tax"). This was a poster for a "spook show" of the 1930s ("spook shows" started in the 1930s, and continued into the late 1960s, with their greatest prominence in the late 1940s and 1950s). Local theaters would book three to five low budget movies, and then advertise them as a late night "spook show". Often they would have "live" acts on stage (sometimes famous actors who had appeared in monster movies would appear on stage in full make up, and sometimes it would be local actors dressed as monsters), and often the posters would make outrageous promises (sometimes they might say a person would be beheaded on stage, etc!). Not too many of these spook show posters survive (almost all the known surviving ones are window cards, some of which are 14" x 22", and some of which are 22" x 28", and the shows certainly had very limited runs). The few "spook show" window cards that DO survive are rarely in even "very good" condition. If anyone knows more about this specific spook show or this poster, please e-mail us and we will post it here. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that the card has "Tues. Dec. 26" printed on it and a perpetual calendar tells us that date fell in 1944, 1950, and 1961. Given the appearance of the card, and Lugosi's career during those years, we think it is incredibly likely it is from 1950. If anyone knows for certain, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Condition: very good. The card had diagonal tears in the bottom blank corners and someone put paper tape on the back of those two areas. There was a 1/2" tear in the middle of the left border and someone put a piece of paper tape on the back of that. There are some water stains that run for approximately 2" just below the tear in the middle of the left blank border. There are a few tiny stains and smudges scattered in the card, including one under Lugosi's eye. Other than the above, the window card is in pretty nice condition! Learn More about condition grades
