eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result 7w0214 JAMES PIERCE signed letter 1976 at that time he was the oldest living Tarzan! Date Sold 3/4/2021Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Autographed Letter (measures 8 1/2" x 11" [22 x 28 cm]) (Learn More) James Hubert Pierce was an actor from the 1920s to the 1950s. His life took a gigantic turn in 1927, when he was signed to play one of the two male lead roles in Wings, but then he met Edgar Rice Burroughs at a party, and Burroughs convinced him to be the next Tarzan instead, so he backed out of Wings! He played Tarzan in 1927's Tarzan and the Golden Lion, but that was his only Tarzan role, and he did not have much of a movie career, but he ended up also marrying Burroughs' daughter Joan, so everything worked out! In the 1970s, he was the oldest surviving actor to have played Tarzan, and he was proud to sign photos as "The Oldest Living Tarzan"! He passed away in 1983 at the age of 83. Important Added Info: Note that this letter has been personally autographed (signed) by James Pierce, who entire hand wrote the letter! Our consignor obtained this autograph through the mail, and included with the autograph is the envelope it was returned to him in (the envelope has a return address for Mr. Pierce). Note that this is one of many items that was consigned to us by legendary Tarzan collector Phil Petras. Mr. Petras was one of the greatest Tarzan fans ever, and he became good friends with several of the actors who played Tarzan, and over many decades, starting in the 1970s, he would meet with actors and actresses who had appeared in Tarzan movies, sometimes on the sets of films, and sometimes at fan gatherings. Prior to his recent passing, he consigned most of his collection to us, and we are currently auctioning many of his autographed items, sometimes from actors who played Tarzan or Jane, and sometimes from actors who appeared in one or more Tarzan movies (but the items we are auctioning may or may not be from their Tarzan films). Mr. Petras naturally did not have "certificates of authenticity", but we feel certain that the autograph on this item, and every other item we are currently auctioning from his collection, is surely authentic! As is true of all the signed items we are currently auctioning, we give every buyer 30 days in which to review what they purchased and they can return any item as long as it is within 30 days of the end of the auction. On non-signed items, we give a "lifetime guarantee" on everything we auction, but on signed items, we give the above modified guarantee of 30 days after the auction closes. Condition: very good to fine. Learn More about condition grades
