An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Movie Window Card (WC; measures 14" x 22" [36 x 56 cm]) (Learn More) Make Way for Tomorrow, the classic 1937 Leo McCarey family relationship Great Depression melodrama ("A human drama of real love!"; "They want to live their own lives...! Can you blame them?"; "The world had passed them by!"; about an elderly couple in the Depression who through no fault of their own lose their pension, and they turn to their adult children to help them out, but the children are too busy with their lives to do much to help their parents) starring Victor Moore, Beulah Bondi, Fay Bainter, Thomas Mitchell, Porter Hall, Barbara Read, Louise Beavers, and Elisabeth Risdon. This is really a wonderful movie, and it seems extremely likely that the great Japanese director Yasujiro Ozu was strongly influenced by this movie. Legend has it that when director Leo McCarey was given the Best Director award for The Awful Truth, he commented "I was given it for the wrong movie", because he felt that Make Way For Tomorrow was his best work! If you have not seen this movie, and if you like "sentimental" movies, this is well worth seeing! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this window card! Not only that, but first release posters for this movie are quite rare. We have previously auctioned a one-sheet and a half-sheet, plus an "other company" insert and three-sheet, but no other first release posters. Also, note that our consignor purchased this window card at an auction in London of some of David Gest's posters! Mr. Gest was a very long time close friend of Michael Jackson and was for a time married to Liza Minelli, and he was a serious collector of movie posters and related memorabilia since the 1980s! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The window card had some creases, tears, and darkening around the edges.
