A 1934 Re-release Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 27" x 41") (Learn More) The Texas Ranger, the 1931 D. Ross Lederman cowboy western (from the story by Forrest Sheldon) starring Buck Jones ("The Screen's Greatest Western Star"), Carmelita Geraghty, Harry Woods, Ed Brady, and Nelson McDowell. Note that Buck Jones' white horse was named Silver (just like The Lone Ranger's later on!), and Silver made 73 movies with Buck Jones from 1922 until Jones' death in 1942 in the tragic Cocoanut Grove fire. But oddly, Silver was almost never billed on the posters for Buck Jones' movies as so many other famous horses (most especially Tom Mix's Tony) were! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that in 1934, Columbia re-released many of the most popular Buck Jones westerns from 1930 and 1931. At this time, Columbia was saving money any way they could (since it was in the height of The Great Depression), and virtually all Columbia re-releases of that time were printed from the same plates as the original, but with the copyright date changed, and sometimes the re-releases were duotone. But, solely in the case of these western re-releases, Columbia created all new posters for the movies! Perhaps this was a sign of how important those westerns were to the studio at that time, or perhaps they were hoping to deceive the public into thinking they were seeing a brand new movie. In many cases, the 1934 re-releases have superior artwork, design, and taglines to that of the original releases. Note that some unscrupulous individuals have taken some of these re-releases, and altered the copyright date, to try to "pass them off" as original releases (but they did not know that the images were different!). Condition: very good. The poster had separation in the top 2" of the vertical foldline, and then a slightly diagonal 2" tear going through the middle of the "d" of "Riding" at top center. It also had tiny paper loss at the crossfolds and separation and fine paper loss between the middle and bottom crossfolds. There was minor wear on the other foldlines, pinholes in the corners, and a few minor border defects. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well! Learn More about condition grades
