An Original 1947 (from the first release of this movie in France) Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked French "Affiche" Movie Poster (23x32; measures 23 1/2" x 31 1/2" [60 x 80 cm]) (Learn More) They Drive By Night (released in England as "The Road to Frisco"), the 1940 Raoul Walsh trucker romantic love triangle action melodrama ("No picture in 1940 will have bigger thrills!"; "From a Novel by A.I. Bezzerides"; about truckers and their love lives; it stole part of its plot from "Bordertown"!) starring George Raft, Ann Sheridan, Ida Lupino, Humphrey Bogart, Alan Hale Sr., Gale Page, Roscoe Karns, John Litel, Charles Halton, Charles C. Wilson, George Tobias, and Henry O'Neill. Note that movies rarely have top stars in all four lead roles (other than MGM movies of the 1930s and early 1940s, because they had so many such stars that they could afford to do this), but this movie is kind of a rare exception. We say "kind of" because Humphrey Bogart and Ida Lupino were not yet top stars when they made this movie, but the very next movie they made was "High Sierra", which did help elevate both of them to greater stardom! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Georges Daston Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster had many creases, scuffs, and tiny bits of paper loss on both folds, and it had darkening and light staining scattered throughout. There was ink transfer in Bogart's face, and also in Lupino's face, both caused by the poster being folded too quickly after it was printed. Overall, the poster was in fair condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was backed with no excess and very little attempt at restoration (see our image). Learn More about condition grades
