A Linenbacked Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Title Lobby Card (LC TC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More)

The Toast of New York, the 1937 Rowland V. Lee New York City Wall Street financier romantic comedy ("Based on 'Book of Daniel Drew' by Bouck White and the story 'Robber Barons' by Matthew Josephson"; loosely based on the real life of Jim Fisk, one of the great Wall Street tycoons of the late 1800s, with Frances Farmer playing his mistress) starring Edward Arnold, Cary Grant, Frances Farmer, Jack Oakie, Donald Meek, and Gavin Gordon. Note that this movie was originally called "The Robber Barons", and the title was not changed until late in production, which is why the still code for this movie is "R.B." There is a brief montage sequence in the movie called "The Seven Temptations", and Frances Farmer appears in that montage, sometimes wearing a black wig. It seems likely that this sequence was originally much longer, but that it was cut down for the final print, for unknown reasons.

Important Added Info: Note that we have previously auctioned five lobby cards from this movie, but we have NEVER auctioned this title card! Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has.

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The lobby card had pinholes, small tears, creases, and smudges around the edges, with paper loss in the top left blank corner. It had some smudges and scuffs scattered throughout the image. Overall, the card was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The card was pretty well backed, but you can see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects. The person who linenbacked the card did not leave any excess border, surely knowing that lobby card collectors prefer that with linenbacked lobby cards.
