Date Sold 11/22/2018Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Australian Daybill Movie Poster (db; measures 13 1/4" x 30" [34 x 76 cm]) (Learn More) Lifeboat, the classic 1943 Alfred Hitchcock (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) World War II (WWII) shipwreck survivor suspense melodrama ("Out of man's rawest emotions - comes the most amazing drama life ever staged!"; based on the story by John Steinbeck; set entirely on a lifeboat adrift on the Atlantic ocean, which has eight survivors from a ship torpedoed by a Nazi U-boat, and it also has a German sailor from the U-boat, but the other eight survivors don't know that!) starring Tallulah Bankhead, William Bendix, Walter Slezak, Mary Anderson, John Hodiak, Henry Hull, Heather Angel, Hume Cronyn, and Canada Lee. Note that Alfred Hitchcock was famous for having cameo roles in his movies, but because this movie had no other characters other than the lifeboat survivors, he could not appear in the usual way (but he included a scene where a floating newspaper is shown that has his picture on it)! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this classic Alfred Hitchcock movie received very little release outside of the U.S. (no doubt this was in part due to the difficulties of distributing movies overseas in the midst of World War II). We have auctioned very few non-U.S. posters for this movie, and we have never before auctioned any Australian posters, until we were consigned this daybill! Condition: good. There is small paper loss in Bankhead's chin and in the top of the "L" of "SUITABLE". There are pinholes in the corners and one each in the left and right borders, with two pinholes at the bottom of the "L" of the title. There is a circular stain at the bottom of the "I" of "HITCHCOCK" at top center, extending into the letters below. There are a few faint brown stains and small tears around the edges. There are creases in the bottom 3" of the poster and a light partial extra horizontal fold below the regular bottom one. After a relatively simple linenbacking, the poster will look great!
