An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Forty by Sixty Movie Poster (40x60; measures 40" x 60" [102 x 152 cm]) (Learn More) Joe Louis vs Tami Mauriello, the 1946 theatrical release of the boxing sports event ("Now showing fight pictures"; "Extra Exclusive"; "Joe Louis vs. Tami Mauriello in Official Fight Films of The World's Heavyweight Championship Battle"; "All the Highlights - Round by Round - Blow by Blow - Better than a Ringside Seat") between Joe Louis and Tami Mauriello, which took place at Yankee Stadium in New York City on September 18th, 1946. In the days before television was widely available, boxing matches were almost always filmed and then released to movie theaters, and the best matches often were extremely popular with moviegoers. Note that this was Joe Louis' second title of defense after the war, and he won handily, knocking out Mauriello at just over 2 minutes in the first round (which means this would have been an extremely SHORT movie, except they surely padded it with a bunch of extra material)! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: very good. Most of the poster was in nice condition. There were small tears and areas of surface paper loss in the black tagline area at bottom right (mostly in the background, but slightly affecting a few of the letters). There was brown staining in the white tagline beneath that, in the "ROUND BY ROUND BLOW-BY-BLOW", and there was likely a snipe glued over that area (they had surely printed up the posters before the fight, and they couldn't very well say "round by round" in a one-round fight!). There were some tears to the right of that area. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer linenbacked the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did little restoration to the defects described above, but they are really not very distracting (and any restorer could easily touch them up without re-backing the poster).
