An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked French Movie Poster (measures 31 1/4" x 46 3/4") (Learn More) Un Chien Andalou (released in the U.S. as "An Andalusian Dog"), the classic 1929 Luis Bunuel silent French fantasy short starring Salvador Dali, Pierre Batcheff, Simone Mareuil, Luis Bunuel, Robert Hommet, and Fano Messan. Note that this is the movie which contains one of the most disturbing images ever shown on screen, that of a man slitting a woman's eye with a straight razor (if you have ever seen it, you have not forgotten it!) NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster is from the first release in France which did not occur until 1968, 39 years after the movie was first made (it was a short experimental film, and did not receive a theatrical release until the 1960s, when it became a "cult" favorite). Also note that this poster is a rare country of origin poster from this French classic! Finally, note that this French poster measures 31 1/4" x 46 3/4" and that it is linenbacked. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. This poster was linenbacked, and the restorer did a good job, but you can see signs of the restoration from inches away (since most people look at posters framed on a wall from at least a few feet away, we don't feel this is a defect, but we feel it should be noted). See below for this poster's pre-restoration condition (we are the only major auction company we know of that shares this information with our bidders, but we wish everyone did!). good to very good. The poster had many creases and small tears at each crossfold. There were two uneven tears going through the face of the woman wearing mannish clothes (two panels below the title). There were extra creases along the foldlines and small tears, smudges, and pinholes around the edges of the poster. The poster was well linenbacked. You can see signs of the defects when looking from inches away, but from any distance, the defects pretty much vanish, and the poster looks quite nice! Learn More about condition grades
