eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result 6h571 EL GOLFO Spanish/U.S. 3sh '69 artwork of Raphael & Shirley Jones, Mexican musical! Date Sold 1/22/2013Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Three-Sheet Movie Poster (3sh; measures 41" x 81" [104 x 206 cm]) (Learn More) El Golfo (literally translates to "The Gulf"), the 1969 Vicente Escriva Mexican romantic musical comedy starring Raphael (an extremely popular Spanish singer of the 1960s and 1970s who acted in a dozen movies), Shirley Jones, Pedro Armendariz, Jr., Hector Suarez, Patricia Moran, Pinky, Jose Galvez, Ahui, Jesus Casillas, Gilberto Roman, and Ana Martin. Note that this was 23 year-old singing star Raphael's second movie, and was apparently intended to expose him to a wider audience than those who had seen him in his native Spain. This movie was made in Mexico, and is kind of like "The Roman Spring of Mrs. Stone" and "Summertime" combined, with the novel casting of American Shirley Jones as the older spinster woman who falls for the handsome young hustler, and oddly, it is a musical, and yet Shirley Jones does no singing! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this three-sheet was printed in the United States for use at theaters with Spanish speaking audiences (this was done most by MGM, starting in the 1930s, but it was done by the other major studios as well, and often the posters would have the exact same image as the English language poster, except the writing would be in Spanish, and on posters from the 1930s and 1940s there would be an added "Toda en Espanol!", meaning "Entirely in Spanish!", printed within the image). Sometimes posters from the 1960s or later will have the word "SPANISH" printed in the bottom border (or sometimes stamped on the back of the poster). Also note that this three-sheet was printed in 2 sections designed to overlap. Condition: good. There are many pinholes around the edges. There is some darkening on the back of the part of the poster that was on the outside when it was fully folded. There are some creases and several tears along the foldlines that were on the outside when the poster was fully folded. There are some creases, smudges, and tiny tears on some foldlines, and some tiny paper loss at some crossfolds. Learn More about condition grades
