An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More)

That Lady in Ermine, the 1948 Ernst Lubitsch medieval romantic musical comedy ("Screen Play by Samson Raphaelson"; "Lyrics & Music by Leo Robin & Frederick Hollander"; "Dances staged by Hermes Pan"; this was a remake of a 1927 movie, and it mostly follows the same plot, which was a very clever story of an Italian Count and his wife living in a castle, where her grandmother once slept with a leader of the enemy so that her husband would not be executed, but when the husband found out, he killed her!; back in the present day, which was 1810, the Count goes off to war and the Austrian enemy occupies his home, and when the Count returns, he is arrested and ordered to be executed, and in the 1927 movie, his wife tells the enemy leader about her grandmother and offers to make the same deal with him, and the movie ends with her going to him clad only in ermine; sadly, the Production Code that existed in 1948 meant it was not only impossible to have the same ending, but they actually had the heroine divorce her husband and marry the enemy leader, which completely ruined the concept of the movie, but it was the only way to get the movie released!) starring Betty Grable, Douglas Fairbanks Jr., Cesar Romero, Walter Abel, Reginald Gardiner (incorrectly billed on the one-sheet as "Virginia Gardiner"!), Harry Davenport, Virginia Campbell, and Whit Bissell. Note that director Ernst Lubitsch died during the filming of this movie, and it was completed by Otto Preminger. As noted above, there were major problems with getting the movie passed by the Production Code, and the above changes were made. But it is unclear that this movie would have done any better with the original ending, and it was a major flop at the box office, and Betty Grable said it was the least favorite of all her movies.

Important Added Info: Note that this poster has one of the most unusual typos we have ever seen! Reginald Gardiner is billed as "Virginia Gardiner"! Apparently, the person who did the credits was REALLY not paying attention and put the "Virginia" from Virginia Campbell onto Mr. Gardiner's credit as well! We have seen many examples of this poster and they all have the same typo, and none were sniped, so apparently Mr. Gardiner was a good sport about this wacky error. The other items we have seen from this movie have not had the same typo. We wonder if the person who made this mistake was fired. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here.

Condition: good. The poster has creases, defects, areas of paper loss and tears of varying lengths along parts of some edges (see our image). There are a few tiny dot stains scattered in various areas. After proper restoration the poster will display well, but bear in mind the poster's condition and the cost of restoration before bidding on it.
