An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Three-Sheet Movie Poster (3sh; measures 41" x 81" [104 x 206 cm]) (Learn More) The Lottery Bride, the 1930 Paul L. Stein Norway romantic musical screwball comedy ("An Amazing Dramatic Romance!"; "Music by Rudolf Friml"; a wacky story of a Norwegian woman who gets her boyfriend to run in a three-day marathon race with her to try to win a major prize, but they lose, so she enters a wacky wife lottery, but ultimately, everything works out) starring Jeanette MacDonald, John Garrick, Joe E. Brown, Robert Chisholm, Joseph Macaulay, and Zasu Pitts NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Hap Hadley Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this three-sheet. Also note that "Hap" Hadley, who drew this poster, was an important illustrator of the 1920s and 1930s, and one of the very few who was allowed to sign his movie poster work, and this poster has great stone litho Hap Hadley art of the stars, with Jeanette MacDonald in the center of a gambling roulette wheel! Not only that, but any first release movie paper is extremely scarce (likely because the movie had a quick 1937 re-release from Artcinema). We have never auctioned any first release posters before this three-sheet other than a number of inserts (because someone made a "find" of those), and a couple of lobby cards and a jumbo lobby card. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: fair. The poster had some tiny bits of paper loss on small parts of some folds, but was otherwise in really nice condition. It was in "very good to fine" condition prior to linenbacking. Unfortunately, the poster received significant water staining down the right 3-5" (unevenly), and it has discolored and rippled both the linen and the border of the poster, with some within the border of the image and slightly affecting the United Artists credit. I don't think the new owner would want to display the poster with this major defect, but certainly a talented restorer can remove it from the old linen, and since the defects are primarily in the blank border, and only slightly in the background, the poster will look fantastic after it is re-backed. But certainly, bear in mind this significant defect before bidding on this poster. Learn More about condition grades
