Date Sold 8/4/2024Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36" [36 x 91 cm]) (Learn More) Irving Berlin's Holiday Inn, the 1942 Mark Sandrich romantic love triangle musical comedy ("Lyrics and Music by Irving Berlin"; about two performers who opened a New England inn that is only open on holidays) starring Bing Crosby, Fred Astaire, Marjorie Reynolds, Virginia Dale, Walter Abel, and Louise Beavers. Note that this was the movie that introduced the Irving Berlin classic "White Christmas". It proved VERY popular, and in 1954, Paramount pretty much remade this movie as White Christmas, with Danny Kaye replacing Fred Astaire, and two new female leads, and that became an all-time Christmas classic! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this insert. That example was only in "good" condition, and it sold for $397! Note that this poster was linenbacked and restored by the "Backing to the Future" company, which provided a 7 3/4" x 9 3/4" certificate stating that the restoration was performed by them in July 2020. It is only recently that we have seen a certificate like this, but we hope that many restorers will consider doing the same, because that lets the buyer know both which company did the restoration, and they can also ask them questions about the specific poster (and in this case, the poster is numbered, so that they know exactly which poster it was, in case they restored more than one example of it). The poster also comes with a "letter of provenance" from GZ Auctions. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: fair to good. The poster had been displayed and it had faded considerably. It had some creases, small tears, and tiny paper loss on the folds, with some other creases scattered throughout and with some pinholes and tears around the edges. Overall, the poster was in fair condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but the restorer did not address the fading, so please bear this in mind before bidding.
