An Original Vintage Theatrical 8" x 10" Movie Still (Learn More) Frank Capra's Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, the classic 1939 Frank Capra (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) political corruption politics romantic melodrama ("A great director creates his most heart-stirring human spectacle!"; "Capra's magic probes the very heart of America to produce this greatest hit - a blend of laughter, tears, romance, excitement!"; "Capra's greatest hit --- the screen at its most inspired!"; "The greatest of all Capra hits!"; "Gayer than 'It Happened One Night', More Moving than 'Mr. Deeds Goes to Town', More Tender than 'You Can't Take It With You'"; "Overwhelming... in its universal appeal!"; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award; about a political innocent from the country who is appointed as a replacement senator, and he learns of political corruption, and tries to expose it, only to find that even the senator he most admires is in on the corruption) starring Jean Arthur, James Stewart (Jimmy Stewart; nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film; in the title role as Jefferson Smith), Claude Rains (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film; as Senator Paine), Edward Arnold (as the corrupt businessman, Jim Taylor, who tells senators what to do), Guy Kibbee, Thomas Mitchell, Beulah Bondi, Harry Carey Sr. (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film; as President of the Senate), Porter Hall, Jack Carson, Bobs Watson, Astrid Allwyn, and Eugene Pallette NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that on this still there is a printed paper snipe attached to the back describing the scene on the front. NOTE THAT THIS SCENE IS ONE I BELIEVE TO HAVE BEEN DELETED FROM THE MOVIE! Of course, my memory may be faulty, but this scene shows Stewart and Arthur returning to his home town (after they had been married, according to the snipe), and getting a giant parade, with a sign that reads, "Send Smith to Congress for Life!". I imagine this scene was cut either because the movie ran too long, or because it was anti-climactic to the shooting scene in the Senate. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail me and I will post it here. NOTE: In this case, the #2 in the title of the sale is not the number of the still. Because we are selling more than one still from this movie this week as separate eBay sales, we needed to differentiate the different sales, and we did so by marking them "#1, #2, #3, etc..". Condition: very good. see below for why we don't describe the defects of this item in words Learn More about condition grades
