An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Title Lobby Card (LC TC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Mr. Moto Takes a Vacation, the 1939 Norman Foster Asian detective crime mystery thriller ("Mr. Moto Takes a Vacation ...but there's no holiday from murder for him!"; "Based on the character 'Mr. Moto' created by J.P. Marquand"; the eighth and final entry in this series of popular movies) starring Peter Lorre (in the title role as Mr. Moto), Joseph Schildkraut, Lionel Atwill, Virginia Field, John King, Iva Stewart, and Willie Best. Note that Fox had had great success with its Chinese detective, Charlie Chan, so it seemed natural for them to start this second series featuring a Japanese detective. It did not start until 1937, perhaps because they did not have an actor suitable for the lead role, but Peter Lorre had substance abuse issues, and he was probably happy to get the work. Fox made seven movies in just three years, but then they stopped the series, likely because of the rise of anti-Japanese sentiment in the U.S., as World War II neared. Important Added Info: Note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: good to very good. The card once had an 8x10 still stapled to the back, and there were pairs of staples all around the edges of the still. Those staples let holes in the front of the card, including in Lorre's hair and the left side of his mouth, with one in his neck. Fortunately, they did not affect the other two faces or most of Lorre's face. Someone performed restoration to the front of the card without backing it, and you can clearly see where the staple holes were by looking at our image of the back of the card. The restoration was pretty well done, and the card displays pretty well, but you can see signs of the restoration. Learn More about condition grades
