An Autographed Letter (measures 5" x 8" [13 x 20 cm]) (Learn More) Katharine Cornell was a German stage actress, writer, and producer from the 1920s to the 1950s. She appeared in only one film, Stage Door Canteen, but was best known for her many Broadway appearances including: The Barretts of Wimpole Street, Romeo and Juliet, Time for Comedy, Antony and Cleopatra, and The Constant Wife. She passed away in 1974 at the age of 81. Important Added Info: Note that this item has been personally autographed (signed) by Katharine Cornell (who entirely hand wrote the letter and the address and return address on the envelope this letter was originally mailed in). Also included with the letter is a small note card written by David Mallery that says the letter is "from Katharine Cornell - after a magnificent TV performance in THERE SHALL BE NO NIGHT with Charles Boyer". Note that this letter comes from the estate of David Mallery. He was a professor of cinematography at Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia, from the 1960s into the 1990s. He was a founding member of the AFI (American Film Institute), and a member of the Motion Picture Academy. He was a film critic who wrote many reviews for many publications, and hosted a TV show where he interviewed directors, actors, and others involved in the film industry. Because he became personal friends with most of the actors and directors that he corresponded with, it is virtually a certainty that they hand signed their letters to him, because he was a personal friend and not a "fan".
