Date Sold 1/20/2022Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Mexican Movie Poster (measures 26 3/4" x 36 3/4" [68 x 93 cm]) (Learn More) Los Olvidados (released in English-speaking countries as "The Young and the Damned" and also as "The Forgotten Ones"), the 1950 (released in the U.S. in 1951 [Spanish language] and 1952 [subtitled]) Luis Bunuel Mexican teen juvenile delinquent melodrama (about the many wild Mexican children who roam the streets of Mexico after World War II, living in great poverty, and stealing or doing whatever they could to survive) starring Estela Inda, Miguel Inclan, Alfonso Mejia, Roberto Cobo, and Alma Delia Fuentes. Note that this is widely considered one of the greatest Mexican movies ever, even though it was made by Luis Bunuel, who was from Spain. He filmed the movie in Mexico soon after World War II, and he was obviously greatly influenced by Vittorio De Sica's "Sciuscia" (Shoeshine) from 1946, and perhaps even the Dead End Kid movies of the 1930s. This movie resembles "The Lord of the Flies", in that it shows just how lawless and cruel children can be when they grow up in awful circumstances. It is not an easy movie to watch, but it absolutely should be seen! Note that in 1981, Hector Babenco made the movie "Pixote", which was clearly an homage to this movie. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is a very rare "country of origin" poster for this Mexican movie. We have only auctioned three examples of this poster, and the last one auctioned 19 years ago, and those three posters sold for $3,200, $2103, and $1800! There is a very slight difference between this poster and those three, which is that the tiny printer credits in the lower right corner are placed slightly differently. We think that this is just a result of the posters having been printed by more than one printer and that this is surely a first release Mexican poster. Also note that this poster has been trimmed and it now measures 26 3/4" x 36 3/4" [68 x 93 cm]. Finally, note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Condition: poor to fair. The poster has been trimmed on the left and right borders and it has paper loss in the top left corner and in the middle of the left border. For unknown reasons, someone cut out two diamond-shaped areas at the top and bottom crossfolds, and the one a the top affects the left of the girl's face and the one at bottom affects her foot. There is also a thin strip of paper missing below the bottom diamond cut out and a much smaller thin strip above the bottom diamond cut out. Obviously this poster needs really significant restoration, so bear that in mind and look closely at our super-sized image before placing a bid. Learn More about condition grades
