HYDE LC 1931 c/u of troubled Fredric March & Miriam Hopkins, ultra rare! Date Sold 11/5/2017Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Doctor Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, the 1931 Rouben Mamoulian double-personality fantasy monster horror thriller ("Based on the novel by Robert Louis Stevenson") starring Fredric March (winner of the Best Actor Academy Award for this film; in both title roles; he tied with Wallace Beery who won for The Champ), Miriam Hopkins, Rose Hobart, Holmes Herbert, Edgar Norton, and Halliwell Hobbes. Note that this movie premiered in New York City on New Year's Eve 1931, and then went into general release in the U.S. in 1932. So except for that one night, it is a 1932 movie, but because it is always identified as being from 1931, we also identify it that way! That also helps explain why there is movie paper dated 1933. It was a giant hit, and the movie was surely still in its first release into 1933, and more paper was printed as it was needed. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that first release lobby cards from this classic horror movie are extremely scarce. We have only auctioned three in all our years of auctioning, and we have never auctioned this card! Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: fair. The card has paper loss in the top right corner extending into the credits, and a triangle of paper loss in the bottom border, extending into March's jacket. It has a 2" L-shaped tear near the top center of the card that does not have paper loss (it may look like that in our scan, but that is because the tear was not positioned correctly). There is an indentation in March's hair and a scuff mark in Hopkins' chin. There are a few creases and scuffs scattered in the image. Obviously, this card has major defects, but certainly a talented restorer can replace and repair the defects described above, and this is an extremely rare lobby card! Note that this lobby card is completely unrestored and there is not a single piece of tape on either the front or back! Learn More about condition grades
