An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) The Fighting Coward, the 1924 James Cruze silent romantic cowardice/bravery gambling melodrama ("From the play 'Magnolia' by Booth Tarkington"; about a young man who is born in the south but is sent north to live with Quaker relatives, and they teach him to never fight under any circumstances, and he goes back down south, and he is bullied by people who see he won't fight back, and the woman he loves scorns him for being a coward, but he proves her and the bullies wrong, but he ends up with the woman's younger sister, played by 18 year old Mary Astor) starring Ernest Torrence (as The Gambler), Mary Astor (as The Girl), Noah Beery Sr. (as The Gunfighter), Cullen Landis (in the title role as The Fighting Coward), and Phyllis Haver (as The Flirt). Note that it is surely a coincidence, but the plot of this movie is incredibly similar to that of the hero of Kenny Rogers' song, "Coward of the County"! The card was folded down the middle at one time and there are smudges around the edges, with a tear and tiny paper loss in the top blank border.
