Note that Lina Wertmuller had been making movies in Italy since 1963, but she did not achieve success in the United States until 1974, with the release of "Swept Away", and the release of "Seven Beauties" the next year. A year later, this movie, which was her second movie as a director from 1965, was released in the U.S., 11 years after its first release (much as was done with Ingmar Bergman's 1950s movies, which were released in the U.S. in the 1960s, after the great success of "The Seventh Seal").
