An Original Vintage Comic Book (measures approximately 7 1/8" x 10 1/4") (Learn More) The Crypt of Terror was an EC Comics (E.C. Comics) horror comic book series from 1950. In 1950, EC publisher Gaines and his editor Al Feldstein discovered they shared similar tastes in horror and began experimenting with horror tales in their Crime Patrol comic series. With issue #17, the title changed from Crime Patrol to The Crypt of Terror. Due to an attempt to save money on second-class postage permits, the numbering did not change with the title and continued as The Crypt of Terror for the next two issues before switching to Tales From the Crypt with issue #20. So there were three issues with the name "The Crypt of Terror", #17-19. At the beginning of 1955, Bill Gaines was going to add a fourth horror title, and he decided to name it "The Crypt of Terror", and the first issue was all set for publication. But this was at the time of the Senate investigation, and Gaines realized he could not publish a new title, so he instead published the comic as the last issue of Tales From the Crypt (#46). 18 years later, Ron Barlow and Bruce Hershenson published the issue as their first East Coast Comics reprint, and the original title was restored, so it finally saw publication as was intended in 1955! This was one of the EC comic titles published by Bill Gaines (William Gaines) through his company, EC Comics (E.C. Comics), which he inherited from his father in 1947. Since the ending of publication, all of the EC comics have been reprinted many, many times, in many formats, and there have been several movies and TV series based on them! Note that due to the greater interest in this comic we have pictured EVERY single page of this comic, which means that you can see EVERY defect the comic has, AND get a good sense of its condition. While we gave the comic an overall condition grade (and sometimes describe the defects in words) please rely on the actual images of the comic to help you decide what YOU think its condition is, and then bid or not bid based on what you are seeing in the images. And if you have ANY doubt as to what the condition of the comic is, or whether you want it in the condition it is is, then please do not bid, as we do not want any retracted bids or returns if at all possible. If in doubt, do not bid!. Condition: poor, with old restoration. A number of the pages were stuck together at one time and somebody crudely tore them apart, causing many tears and areas of paper loss (see our images of every page). In addition, the cover had paper loss and tears in the right border and someone used paper and touch up to "restore" this, but they left alone the rest of the comic. This comic has very substantial defects, so please do not bid on it unless you can accept them. Learn More about condition grades
