An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Campaign Book (measures 11 1/2" x 14 1/4" [29 x 36 cm]; 14 pages) (Learn More)

the late 1940 Universal Studios campaign book, which Universal published toward the end of 1940, because they were having such a banner year! What caused this? First and foremost was the enormous success of Abbott and Costello and their "Buck Privates" was setting records everywhere it played. But Universal was also doing really well with Deanna Durbin, who they were rushing into movie after movie, just like Abbott and Costello. They were also doing really well with some of the 1930s stars who had left major studios because their careers were winding down, and now they were finding "second life" at Universal (stars like Charles Boyer, Margaret Sullavan, Marlene Dietrich, Joan Blondell, and Kay Francis). So toward the end of 1940, they rushed out this second hardcover spiral-bound campaign book, to tell theaters how well they were doing with their current movies and saying that they had even more big ones coming! The book has mostly full-page ads for their held over and upcoming movies. We have never auctioned this special "end of year" second campaign book before, and it is surely extremely rare!

Condition: very good to fine. The book has very minor wear and is in very nice condition!
