An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Swedish Movie Poster (measures 27 3/4" x 39 1/2" [70 x 100 cm]) (Learn More) Intermezzo, the 1936 Josef von Baky German opera singer music romantic love triangle melodrama (a really bizarre story of a beautiful young opera singer who is engaged to marry a rich man, and he insists she must quit singing once they marry, so she breaks off their engagement and then, bizarrely, she goes to a casino and "auctions off" her voice to the highest bidder, saying she will let that person decide what singing she will do in the future!; the winning bidder pays a lot, and he becomes her manager, and he has her perform to great acclaim, but she is crushed when she learns that her manager has paid the audience to love her performance, and then her former fiance gives the manager his money back, but of course, that indebts her to the rich guy, and later, she becomes the star of a new opera in Paris, and it turns out that her former manager has written the opera, and she leaves her rich guy to be with her composer!) starring Tresi Rudolph (a real life opera singer), Albrecht Schoenhals, Franz Weber, Erich Fiedler, Rudolf Schundler, Ernst Legal, and Rudolf Klein-Rogge. Note that this was director Josef van Baky's first movie (and although it was made the exact same year that Ingrid Bergman's Intermezzo was made in Sweden, the two movies have no connection at all, except the title), although he had been an assistant director for some time in the 1920s and 1930s. He directed movies like this in Germany, and thus avoided any problem with the Nazis or the Allies after the war, and he resumed his career into the late 1950s.
