An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More)

Star Wars (now known as "Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope"), the classic 1977 George Lucas (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) outer space fantasy action adventure science fiction (sci-fi) epic ("A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away..."; "George Lucas, the man who brought you American Graffiti now brings you an adventure as big as the cosmos itself: Star Wars, the story of a boy, a girl, and a universe. It's a spectacle light years ahead of its time from 20th Century Fox."; "Written and Directed by George Lucas"; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award) starring Mark Hamill (as Luke Skywalker), Harrison Ford (as Han Solo), Carrie Fisher (as Princess Leia), Peter Cushing (as Grand Moff Tarkin), Alec Guinness (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film; as Obi-Wan Kenobi), Anthony Daniels (as C-3PO), James Earl Jones (as the voice of Darth Vader), David Prowse (billed as "Dave Prowse"; as the man inside the Darth Vader suit!), Peter Mayhew (as Chewbacca), Kenny Baker (as R2-D2), and Phil Brown (as Uncle Owen)

If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: We know that all true Star Wars fans know this, but this poster (known in the hobby as the "birthday" poster) was only issued to theaters that showed Star Wars for 365 days straight through, which makes this an exceedingly desirable poster (and far more rare than almost all other Star Wars posters)! George Lucas had to get permission to use the action figures on the poster from Kenner, and it reads "'STAR WARS' ACTION FIGURES COURTESY OF KENNER PRODUCTS". Also note that there are reproductions of this poster. The reproductions measure 39 1/2" tall and originals measure 41" tall. We have carefully measured the poster we are offering here and it measures 41" tall and the printing is sharp. Please bid knowing that this is 100% the original "birthday style" one-sheet!

Note that all but 28 of the folded one-sheets in this Part I of eMoviePoster.com's December Major Auction were consigned to us by legendary French dealer/collector Dominique Besson.

Dominique Besson started collecting movie posters in 1981, and became a dealer in French and European posters in 1994, and has remained as a top dealer ever since!

But in addition, 30 years ago, Dominique began collecting U.S. one-sheets, first those with Saul Bass art, and then adding Alfred Hitchcock posters, then Humphrey Bogart, and he finally ended up collecting in an amazing total of 47 different categories, purchasing the posters from all over the world!

Now the time has come to sell this wonderful collection, and Dominique has chosen eMoviePoster.com to do so, through our auctions!

As noted above, all but 28 of the folded one-sheets in this Part I come from this more remarkable collection (the 28 that do not were consigned to us by other collectors, and are clearly marked).

This is not all of the Dominique Besson collection we are auctioning. In addition, there are approximately 200 more folded one-sheets that will be in Part IV of this special auction (ones from the 1970s to present), and there are approximately 100 unfolded one-sheets that will be in Part III (including many great ones).

This is a very rare opportunity to purchase folded one-sheets (all of which have had no professional restoration) from one of the greatest one-sheet collections assembled!

Note that this one-sheet is from the category that Dominique Besson collected on that he labeled "George Lucas".

Condition: good to very good. There is a small circular brown stain on the back of the poster that shows through to the front in the bottom left of the "S" of "WARS" on the cake. There is another similar brown stain on the back of the left of the bottom horizontal fold, but that does not show through to the front because the background is dark. The poster has fine surface paper loss on parts of some foldlines (typical of high-gloss posters of this period), with tiny scuffs scattered on parts of the folds. There are some light creases scattered throughout the poster. After a relatively simple linenbacking, it will look great!
