Date Sold 3/19/2013Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Window Card Stage Play Poster (WC; measures 14" x 22" [36 x 56 cm]) (Learn More) Show Boat Glorifying the American Girl, the circa 1930s musical stage play ("As presented two years at the Ziegfeld and Casino Theatres, N.Y."; "Not a moving picture"; "Ziegfeld Last and Greatest Triumph"; "In the flesh and blood"; "Music by Jerome Kern"; "Lyrics and Book by Oscar Hammerstein II"; "From Edna Ferber's novel"; "Final opportunity to witness an original Ziegfeld production"; presented by Florenz Ziegfeld). Note that Show Boat played at the Ziegfeld Theatre in 1927 to 1929, and at the Casino Theatre in 1932. This window card references both of those, and mysteriously, it has "Glorifying the American Girl" under the title, which was another major Ziegfeld hit from the 1920s. So we suspect that this was a show of musical numbers excerpted from both of those shows. Since Ziegfeld died in 1932, we imagine this was a special tribute show put together after his death with performers from the original casts (which would explain the "final opportunity to witness an original Ziegfeld production"). If anyone knows more about this poster, please e-mail us and we will post it here. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: good to very good. There are two enlarged nail holes in the right border. There is a 3" tear extending into the bottom of the "W" of "SHOW". There are two nail holes in the upper left tagline area. There are some creases, small stains, and tiny tears around the edges. The card was partially folded at the top in the middle of the top red tagline area. Other than the above, the card is in pretty good condition. Learn More about condition grades
