A 1965 Re-Release Vintage Theatrical Movie Pressbook (pb; measures 11" x 17 1/2" [28 x 44 cm]; 8 pages). Also included is an ad supplement that has one page. (Learn More) Hansel and Gretel, the 1954 John Paul children's puppet fantasy musical ("The miracle that happens only once to the very young ...at heart"; "See... the fabulous 'Kinemins'... Life-like little people they walk, they dance, they sing... They almost breathe!"; "Full Length Feature Musical Fantasy in FAIRYLAND COLOR"; "Winner Parents' Medal Movie of the Month"; using electronically controlled figures called "Kinemins", capable of every natural movement of the human body and a variety of expressions far surpassing the range of the live actors) featuring the voices of Anna Russell, Mildred Dunnock, Frank Rogier, Delbert Anderson, and Constance Brigham. Note that the producers of this movie used deception in their advertising, and it appears that the deception was necessary to get financing for the movie! They pretended that they had some "revolutionary new method" of creating "electronically controlled figures", which they called "Kinemins" that would far surpass any previous form of animation (and since they told their backers this, they had to go ahead and put it on their advertising). In actuality, the figures were simple puppets, and the movie was made with stop-motion (but it was not claymation, for the figures were solid armature puppets, and apparently the only thing "new" about this was that the puppets were held in place with some sort of strong magnets in between each shot!) The entire movie was shot in a building in New York City, but the producers gave the false idea that it was created in Europe, so it would seem all the more fascinating! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that pressbooks were prepared prior to a movie being released. Often, changes would be made in a movie advertising campaign (billing of actors, different images, etc.), and the theaters would print up special supplements that they would send out with the pressbooks that had already been printed. These supplements are very rare, far more rare than the pressbooks themselves! Some pressbooks would have no supplements, some would have one, and some would have several. Also note that we have provided an image of the front and back covers of this pressbook, and of course, the winner of this auction will receive the entire single pressbook we are auctioning (plus any supplements or heralds described above)! Also note that this pressbook is complete and uncut! Given that theater owners purchased pressbooks partly in order to create their newspaper advertising, and quite frequently cut them up for that purpose, it is rare to find a pressbook that IS complete and uncut! Condition: good to very good, NO CUTS. Learn More about condition grades
