eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result 5d266 NIGHT & DAY 33 8x10 stills '46 Cary Grant as Cole Porter, Jane Wyman, Woolly, Hale! Date Sold 1/12/2014Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. 33 Original Vintage Theatrical 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm] Movie Stills (Learn More) Night and Day, the 1946 Michael Curtiz romantic musical composer biographical melodrama ("Based on the Career of Cole Porter") starring Cary Grant (as Cole Porter), Alexis Smith, Monty Woolley (who played himself; he was a real-life close personal friend of Cole Porter's), Ginny Simms, Jane Wyman, Eve Arden, Carlos Ramirez, Donald Woods, and Mary Martin. Note that the real life Cole Porter was a gay homosexual male (although he married), but this could obviously not be addressed in 1946, so the movie presents a very fictitious story of his life! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: SUPER IMPORTANT! THOUGH ONLY EIGHT OF THE STILLS ARE PICTURED, THE HIGH BIDDER ON THIS LOT WILL RECEIVE 33 STILLS FROM THIS MOVIE (but realize that on some of these lots with 9 or more stills there may be a few duplicates, mostly on post-1960 lots)! We realize there is an element of gambling to this, but we made only a small effort to find the best stills in these lots, and, if you have any willingness to gamble at all, you may find that you get some great stills that were not pictured! Please do NOT bid on this lot unless you can accept that you are only seeing eight of the stills. Note that these stills appear in every way to be original U.S. release EXCEPT that there is one very tiny line of French type in the lower right of each still. It reads, "IMPRIME AUX ETATS-UNIS D'AMERIQUE". A collector has told us that he believes this means the stills were printed for use in areas that included French-speaking parts of Canada, but that they WERE printed in the U.S., and that makes complete sense to us! So they are original stills from 1946, but they were printed partially for use in French-speaking Canada. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Condition: good. There is an embossed censor stamp at upper right in each still. There are pin holes around the edges of the stills (with some torn or enlarged due to rough removal) that have been repaired with tape from the back. A few stills have areas of discoloration, creases (some strengthened with tape from the back) and some smudges or scuffs. Learn More about condition grades
