An Original Undated (probably late 1940s; from the first release of this movie in Argentina) Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Argentinean Movie Poster (measures approximately 29" x 43" [74 x 109 cm]) (Learn More) Higher and Higher, the 1943 Tim Whelan mistaken identity romantic musical comedy ("The Sinatra Show"; "The voice that's Thrilling The World teamed with a half dozen popular top-flight comedians in a glittering, glorious musical show - chock full of romance with haunting whistleable songs, dances, laughs!"; about a rich man who goes broke and can't pay his large staff, and they love him, so they come up with a harebrained scheme where one of them impersonates the formerly rich man's daughter to find a wealthy husband who can pay off their boss' debts) starring Michele Morgan, Jack Haley, Frank Sinatra (extremely young in this role), Leon Errol, Marcy McGuire, Paul Hartman, Grace Hartman, Barbara Hale, Dooley Wilson, Victor Borge, Mel Torme (just 18 years old, and in his first movie!), and Ivory Scott. Note that this was based on a Rodgers & Hart musical, which was a rare failure for them. RKO bought the rights, but then scrapped almost all the songs, and reshaped it as a vehicle for the hottest singer to come along in a decade, Frank Sinatra, who was making his feature film debut. The movie was billed as "The Sinatra Show", even though he had third billing! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this Argentinean poster! Also note that when this movie was first released in the U.S., Frank Sinatra was third billed (but it did say "THE SINATRA SHOW" at the top of the posters). Given that Sinatra has exclusive top billing on this poster, we think it is more likely from the later 1940s, when he was a much bigger star. We don't think there was an earlier Argentinean poster for this movie. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had tiny paper loss at the crossfolds and had slightly darkened on the folds. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above.
