The brand was named after Chesterfield county in Virginia and was one of the most recognized brands of the early 20th century. In the 1930s through the 1950s, Chesterfield sponsored popular radio programs and their advertisements often featured famous stars of the day, such as Humphrey Bogart, Lucille Ball, Rita Hayworth, Ronald Reagan and more
