An Undated (probably 1938) Re-Release Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27 1/2" x 40 3/4" [70 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) The Monster Walks, the 1932 Frank R. Strayer haunted house monster horror thriller ("Appalling in its horror - gruesome in its details - terrifying in its action - see 'The Monster Walks' - another 'Frankenstein'"; "You need plenty of nerve when you see this picture"; "Don't see this picture - unless you have steady nerves - unless your heart is strong."; about a man and woman who go to the woman's family mansion, and discover that her scientist father died suddenly and that her crazy uncle and his even crazier son intend to kill her as well, no doubt so they could inherit the family mansion and wealth; at the climax of the movie, the crazy cousin has the girl tied up and he instructs his giant ape to kill her, but the ape turns on the uncle and cousin, and kills them instead!) starring Mischa Auer, Rex Lease, Vera Reynolds, Sheldon Lewis, and Willie Best. Note that we have seen a 1932 one-sheet for this movie that a collector who owns it was kind enough to share with us (see our AH image of it here: http://www.emovieposter.com/agallery/archiveitem/8939889.html). So the 1932 posters ARE very similar to the 1938 Astor re-release posters, which we have sold. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster had tiny bits of paper loss scattered in parts of the vertical foldline, with a lesser amount on the horizontal folds. It had pinholes and paper loss around the edges, with a few pinholes scattered in the image. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The person who backed the poster simply backed it without performing restoration, and the poster is "lifting" from the linen in both the center of the bottom border and in the right of the bottom horizontal fold, where there had been separation. Any restorer could re-glue those areas, and at the same time, restoration could be performed to the above defects (or of course, the poster could be re-backed, after which it would look fantastic).
