A 1955 Re-release Vintage Theatrical Folded Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36") (Learn More) Devil's Trail, the 1942 Lambert Hillyer singing cowboy western musical ("A Sensational Star Team-Up in a Blazing Frontier Flare-Up of Gun-Fire and Melody!"; "Double-Star Action ... In a tuneful thriller of the Old West"; "Two great stars let loose with bullet and song"; "'Wild Bill' and 'Tex' hit the thundering thrill trail!") starring William 'Wild Bill' Elliott (as Wild Bill Hickok), Tex Ritter, Eileen O'Hearn, Frank Mitchell, Noah Beery Sr., and Edmund Cobb. Note that in 1938, Bill Elliot was cast as the title character in the serial The Great Adventures of Wild Bill Hickok. The serial was such a success, that Elliot portrayed Hickok in 12 other films, and even when he was not playing Hickok, his characters were often called "Wild Bill" (such as Wild Bill Saunders & Wild Bill Boone). Eventually, Elliot became so associated with "Wild Bill", that he was cast as a character named "Wild Bill Elliott" in the 1943 film Calling Wild Bill Elliott. In all, he essentially played a character of himself in over 30 films, often with both his credit and role listed as "Wild Bill Elliott"! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography.
